At the summit, explore the vast plateau and its hidden viewpoints before making your way down on foot or enjoying a scenic descent in the rotating cable car.

‌- Hike the renowned Platteklip Gorge, the oldest and most direct route to the summit of Table Mountain. As you ascend, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island, and the surrounding peaks. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights into the geological formation of the mountain, which is over 600 million years old, making it one of the oldest on Earth.

‌- Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as rock hyraxes (dassies), sunbirds, lizards, and possibly even peregrine falcons. Visit Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the mountain at 1,086 meters above sea level, and enjoy stunning photo opportunities throughout the day. End your adventure with an optional descent on the rotating Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, offering 360-degree views as you glide back down to the city.

‌Itinerary

Embark on a guided full-day hike up Table Mountain, one of the oldest mountains on Earth, for an unforgettable adventure filled with spectacular natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and sweeping panoramic views in every direction. Throughout the journey, you’ll navigate varied landscapes, discover fascinating facts about the mountain’s unique ecology and history, and take in some of Cape Town’s most iconic vistas up close.

Kasteelspoort (Hike Up)

Kasteelspoort offers a spectacular and less-traveled route to the summit of Table Mountain, starting from the scenic Atlantic-facing suburb of Camps Bay. This moderate-to-challenging hike leads you up the western slopes of the mountain, weaving through dramatic ravines, weathered sandstone formations, and pristine fynbos vegetation.

As you ascend, you'll enjoy sweeping views of the Twelve Apostles, the deep blue Atlantic Ocean, and the city far below. One of the highlights of this trail is the famous "Diving Board" rock formation—a thrilling photo spot perched on the edge of a cliff. With fewer crowds than some other routes, Kasteelspoort provides a more tranquil and immersive experience.

Your knowledgeable guide will share insights into the mountain's ecology, geology, and fascinating history, making this a journey that’s as enriching as it is beautiful.

Summit Exploration

Upon reaching the summit, you’ll find yourself on a vast, flat-topped plateau that stretches nearly 3 kilometers across, offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the world. Take time to wander along the walking paths, discover hidden viewpoints, and spot the local wildlife such as dassies—also known as rock hyraxes—that inhabit the rocky crevices. Your guide will introduce you to the rare and endemic plants that thrive here, many of which exist nowhere else on Earth. Enjoy a well-deserved light snack or lunch break while soaking in 360-degree views of Cape Town, the surrounding mountains, and the endless ocean beyond. ‌

Hike Down OR Optional Cable Car Descent

For your descent, you have the option to hike down on foot via a scenic trail, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the mountain’s natural beauty as you retrace your steps. This route lets you enjoy a different perspective of the flora, fauna, and rock formations you passed on the way up. Alternatively, if you prefer a more relaxed ending to your adventure, you can choose to ride the rotating Table Mountain cable car down the mountain (ticket not included). The cableway offers breathtaking, uninterrupted 360-degree views during the quick 5-minute descent, providing a perfect finale to your hike. The cable cars can accommodate up to 65 passengers and operate daily, weather permitting. It's a comfortable and accessible option for guests of all ages and fitness levels, offering a world-class alternative to hiking.
