About Kruger National Park

One of the largest game reserves in the world, Kruger Park spans some 18,989 square kilometres, extending about 360 kilometres from north to south and 65 kilometres from east to west. Here you can find Africa’s famous Big Five, a favourite on any Kruger National Park safari. The Big Five includes elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard, which were originally considered the biggest game animals to hunt back in the days of trophy hunting. Today, the reserve is a protected haven for a wide range of animals and bird species, including 147 different species of mammal and 517 species of bird. The park also has a large number of ecosystems, spanning across its various regions, from woodlands to open grasslands and river beds.

Africa Safari Tour Tips

A Kruger safari offers a chance to witness outstanding game viewing, bird watching and other activities in the bush. To ensure that your trip is a safe and memorable one, consider these safari tips:

1. Always stay in your car during game drives, unless your guide tells you it’s safe to get out
2. Do not attempt to feed or approach wild animals that you may come across
3. Be sure to keep insect repellent with you to keep mosquitos at bay
4. Malaria is not an issue in the Kruger area however, so you will not need to take any malaria medication
5. Always wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a sun hat when venturing out into the sun
6. Do not walk around the reserve alone, especially after dark
7. Make sure that you follow the instructions of your guide at all times to make the most of your Africa safari experience
